Manipal Institute Of Technology

Dr. T.M.A Pai established the Manipal Institute of Technology (M.I.T.), in 1957, at a time when there was an acute shortage of engineering institutions in the country. It was formerly known as Manipal Engineering College and was affiliated to the Karnataka University.

As a result of the reorganization of geographical boundaries of the three universities in Karnataka during 1965, the Institute was later affiliated to the University of Mysore and since 1980-1981 the Institute is affiliated to the Mangalore University. In the year 2000, M.I.T. became a constituent institution of the Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE), Manipal. The first batch of students studying under MAHE will pass out in the academic year 2001 - 02.
